The selection of recipients of the International Hall of Fame are to be made from eminent and qualified members of the profession whose claim to distinguished service is generally recognized by the dental profession throughout the world.
The PFA International Hall of Fame of Dentistry is located both in headquarters buildings of the French Federation of Dentistry in Paris, France(which is comparable to the American Dental Association in Chicago) and at the Dr. Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry on the campus of the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland.
The candidate or candidates to be selected must be dentists and graduates of dental schools recognized and accepted in the country of origin of the candidate, and mus be a dentist for a minimum of 35 years and show outstanding qualities of leadership, contributions and participation in any or several of the categories listed below:
A. General dentistry or its specialities
B. Education
C. Research
D. Administration
E. Federal dental service
F. Political science
G. Community service
H. International relations
I. Humanitarian service
J. Public service.
The candidate is recommended by the committee and approved by the Officers and Board of Trustees of the Academy.
Mission and Goals of the PFA International Hall of Fame of Dentistry
1. To promote and preserve for posterity the memorable contributions of the elite and distinguished members of our profession.
2. To promote and preserve for future generations of dentists the unique history of our profession.
3. To educate and motivate members of the profession to uphold its proud history.
4. To promote and elevate the image and self esteem of the members of our profession.
5. To promote and educate the public and political leaders to have a greater appreciation of our profession, what we are ,and where we came from.
6. To promote dentistry and its leaders in the eyes of the general public and dental profession.
7. To memorialize and establish in a prestigious location a home and Honor Roll of our Hall of Fame.

The first inductee into the Hall of Fame was our namesake, Pierre Fauchard, in Paris on May 19th 1994. On June 21, 1996 a second ceremony was held in Paris to add the names of five(5) additional honorees into the Hall of Fame.

On October 16th, 1997 a formal dedication of the United States location of the Hall of Fame was held at the Dr. Samuel D. Harris, National Museum of Dentistry in Baltimore Maryland. During the impressive ceremony two(2) additional members were officially inducted into the Hall of Fame.

These men were the cofounders of the world's first dental school.
The next induction was on June 17th 1998 in Paris France to honor Dr. Charles Eduoard Godon, the founder and president of the Federation Dentaire Internationale.
The tenth(10) inductee was Dr. Lindsay D. Pankey, Sr., on October 24, 1999 in Key Biscayne, Florida. Dr. Pankey was a dental visionary and founder of "The Pankey Institute".
The eleventh (11) inductee was Dr. James Branson Willmott which occurred on May 13th, 2000, in Toronto Canada, Dr. Willmott's singular most important contribution to the profession of dentistry in Canada was his visionary development of dental education.
The twelfth (12) inductee was Dr. Robert B. Shira, which occurred on October 15th , 2000, in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Shira is the first living inductee into the PFA International Wall of Fame of Dentistry.
The thirteenth (13) inductee was Dr. George M. Hollenback , which occurred on April 21, 2001 in Anaheim, California, at the Annual Luncheon of the Southern California Section of the PFA.
The fourteeth (14) inductee was Dr. Gerald H. Leatherman, which occured on June 29th, 2001 in London England, at a formal dinner and induction ceremony of new fellows and Dr. Leatherman into the Hall of Fame, hosted by the United Kingdom Section of the Academy.
