M. David Campbell

From the Desk of Dr. M. David Campbell

This is a wonderful time of the year. We should be thankful for all that we have. We have the time to enjoy our family and friends and to celebrate the many blessings we have in our lives. We should appreciate the fact that we are living in a part of the world where we feel safe, comfortable, and are able to look forward to a positive tomorrow.

We may remember our parents or grandparent reminding us to "count your blessings." When we are young, and a little selfish, these words do not mean much to us. We are more concerned about what we do not have than what we do have. As we become more mature, we become more appreciative of what we do have. We learn to value our family, friends, our homes, our good health, and the wonderful lives we lead.

I am reminded of the people who have shared time, knowledge, and skills to help me. They helped me with no thought of payment or remuneration of any sort. By giving to me, they allowed me to give to others. I am proud to be a dentist. I am proud to have developed the skill and judgement necessary to help our patients. I am proud of the Foundation of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and our ability to serve those less fortunate. In the future, our Foundation is anticipating helping others even more than we have in the last year. So thank you all for supporting us in helping others.

In my community there was a horrific explosion from a gas leak that totally destroyed a house. Fortunately, the husband and wife, both 63 years old, were not injured. When interviewed, both said how blessed they were. Their home was gone, but they had things far more valuable. They had each other, their health, their three grandchildren who lived with them, friends and neighbors, and their memories of good times in that house. Makes you think, does it not?
