The Australian Dental Association praised Premier Anna Bligh for adding fluoride to Queensland's water supplies in order to improve the oral health of its residents. This brings Queensland in line with Australia's other states and territories. The decay rate of children 5 to 12 years old was twice as high as Australian territories that were fluoridated. The Australian Dental Association President John Matthews stated that water fluoridation has proven to be an efficient, effective, and an equitable public health measure for reducing dental decay in all age groups.
In another location, the City of Stuart, Florida, has voted to go with a fluoridated water supply after years of being stalled by three county commissioners.
