Trustee William Winspear has been elected PFA International Vice President. Section Chair (for six years) Jonathan Rogers has been selected for their International Trusteeship. And Dr. Mark Sinclair of New South Wales has been elected as Australasia President. Drs. Gerard Clausen of Victoria, Richard Sawers of South Australia, and Patrick Meaney of New South Wales have been selected as Trustees.

The 2004 Gordon Rowell Prize for Excellence was jointly awarded to Fiji dental students ‘Afa Taulangovaka and to Shareen Ali of the Fiji School of Oral Health.

Canada

Trustee Barry Dolman has outdone himself in establishing special arrangements for our Fellows and their significant others to attend the FDI/PFA functions in Montreal this August. To insure that we are all together, please respond to his article in this issue before March 30th.

Dr. Marcia Boyd was presented the PFA Distinguished Dentist Award in absentia for her outstanding contributions to dentistry as an educator and clinician. She will also be honoured again in Montreal

Canadian Dental Association President Fellow Louis Dube also attended the Vancouver Meeting as well as Dentsply International Vice President George Rhodes.

Costa Rica

At their December Meeting, their Executive Secretary Zianny Piedra V. reported that their Section elected the following officers: President Ronald de la Cruz; Vice President Mario Rodriquez Cordero; Secretary Ma. Patricia Montero Chavarria; Treasurer Francisco Jimenez Carrillo; Voters Jose Antonio Jalet Martinez and Pilar Casasas Vargas; and Prosecutor Juan Jose Herrera Vargas.

France

With the resignation at out last Annual Board Meeting of long-serving Trustee for Europe, Section Chair Hubert Ouvrard was selected as Trustee for Europe to replace Pierre Marois. Paris 7 Dental University Dean Marie-Laure Boy-Lefevre was selected to become Section Chair for France.

Japan

The 20th General Meeting Banquet of the Japanese Association for Dental Science is a federation of 19 specialty disciplines in dentistry. The Meeting was held last October between the typhoons and earthquakes in Yokohama. The Meeting and Banquet were well attended by professionals from all over Japan. More than 1000 people attended the Presidential Reception held at the Royal Park Hotel. Our past PFA President Min Horiuchi addressed the gathering concerning the induction of Dr. Morinosuke Chiwaki into the PFA International Hall of Fame. The Tokyo Dental College prepared a pamphlet in Japanese on Dr. Chiwaki for the audience. President Kazuhiro Eto and the General Meeting guests were very proud to have such a great Japanese dentist recognized internationally.

The next day, the presentation was made at the 35th annual Meeting of the Japan PFA Section in Tokyo. Historian Dr. Yukitaro Sakakibara gave a lecture on the life of Dr. Morinosuke Chiwaki that afternoon, followed by the actual presentation of the plaque by PFA past President Min Horiuchi to Tokyo Dental College President Dr. Yuzuru Kaneko.

Our International Trustee Mamoru Sakuda addressed the Luncheon explaining the PFA Hall of Fame and how Dr. Chiwaki had been selected. Sometime this June, PFA President Michael Perpich will participate in the ceremony to officially place the original plaque on the Wall of Fame at our primary venue in Paris, France.

Our past Pre-sident Min Horiuchi is a graduate of the Tokyo Dental College and was able to renew old friendships make new ones to cement relations between our two countries and for the Academy.

Kenya

Chair Pankaj Patel (originally from India) has formed a Section with 15 Fellows. He plans on expanding PFA in Africa sufficient enough to generate more Sections.

Nigeria

Dr. Mabel Chibuzor, Director of the College Libraries for the Royal College of Science & Technology in Lagos, Nigeria, has requested the donation of any technical or scientific books or study materials for their faculty and staff.

Pakistan

Chair Professor M. A.Soofi has appointed Dr. Umer Farooq Qureshi as Convener to arrange and promote academic and clinical programs for the profession in his Section to raise the professional level of the Academy and of dentistry in his country.
