International Trustee Mark Sinclair completed the Perth ADA Congress where their PFA Section held a breakfast and Induction Ceremony.
Paraguay
The Paraguay Section hosted their first Induction ¬Ceremony last July to bring in 20 new Fellows. With those inducted last year at the First International Latin Induction Ceremony in Sao Paolo, their Section now has 34 active members. Trustee Ernesto Acuna presided in honoring Dr. Victor Raul Vera Vierci, their Founder and Section Chairperson. PFA President Chuck Eller also attended.
Poland
Chairman Professor Eugeniusz Spiechowicz held their Section Meeting last September in Poznan to honor Mrs. Anna Deja-Berdula, President and co-owner of the Exactus Company (organizer of the event), with Honorary PFA membership during the opening of the XVIII Central European Dental Exhibition with some 800 attending.
United States
Illinois
The University of Illinois, College of Dentistry, presented their Constituent Leadership Award to past PFA President Dr. William Kort, '61.
Fellow Gordon Dammann of Lena, Illinois, was named the Illinois State Dental Society Historian in 2000 and founded the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick, Maryland, that now displays his extensive collection of Civil War medical and dental instruments. Gordon could be identified at the Illinois State Dental Meetings in his Union blue uniform exhibiting his dental/medical tools. He is extremely knowledgeable about that time of history and the medical procedures. A practicing dentist for some 40 years, Gordon is now a certi-fied tour guide for the Antietam Battlefield (Sharpsburg to Southerners).
Iowa
Dr. Kathryn Kell, a PFA Fellow and former ADA Trustee, has been elected to the National Museum of Den-tistry's Board of Visitors. Dr. Kell was also a featured speaker at the 92nd University of Iowa College of Den-tistry Alumni Reunion on Friday, September 18th discussing "Evidence-Based Dentistry for the General Prac-titioner."
The Iowa PFA Section Luncheon was held Friday, September 18th.
Maryland
Dr. Leslie W. Seldin has been elected Chair of the Samuel Harris National Museum of Dentistry Board of Visitors last June. During its annual Meeting. Dr. Seldin has served as ADA 1st Vice President, President of the Dental Society of the State of New York, and President of the New York County Dental Society. He re-cently served as General Chairman of the Greater New York Dental Meeting--the largest dental convention in the country. He is the recipient of the prestigious Jarvie Burkhart Award from the New York State Dental Association. He is a PFA Fellow as well as ACD and ICD.
The Museum celebrated its 13th anniversary last June with past Chairman Roger Levin opening their new "Smile" exhibit and introduced its new Web site, "Get Mouth Power!" sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive.
Executive Director Rosemary Fetter retired last July.
The National Museum is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institute and designated by the U.S. Congress as the official museum of the dental profession in the United States. It is located on the campus of the University of Maryland-Baltimore in the old dental school building.
Wisconsin
Fellow Denis P. Lynch, Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Marquette University School of Dentistry was the 72nd recipient of the University of California, San Fran-cisco, Medal of Honor, which is the highest award given by the Dental Alumni Association last June. This distinguished recognition is bestowed upon a member for outstanding accomplishments in advancing the qual-ity and standards of the dental profession. The Award was presented by previous recipient Dr. Sol Silverman, Jr., UCSF School of Dentistry Professor Emeritus.
