Thank You for Making a Difference Foundation 2011 Yearly Report
During the past year it has been a privilege to work with the Foundation of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and to witness the tremendous dedication of each Fellow at improving the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves. One purpose ties us all together: We believe all people deserve the opportunity to receive good oral health care. We also believe our efforts can make a difference. Through your support, in 2011, the Foundation raised more than $60,000 and funded more than $240,900 in scholarships and grants. The Foundation is grateful to the more than 400 individuals who gave so generously in an effort for the Foundation to continue its mission.
Scholarships
In 2011, 72 third-year dental students received a $1500 scholarship from the Foundation. Fifty-eight scholarships were awarded to students in the United States, and 18 were awarded to students outside of the United States--six from Canada, three from France, three from Japan, four from Australia, and one each from Mexico and the Netherlands.
In January, letters were sent to all universities in the United States with dental programs requesting the name of a student for the 2012 scholarships. These awards will be presented to students in the Spring by their school's respective deans. To receive the scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
1. Demonstrate great potential for developing into an outstanding leader in the profession because of his or her participation in the University, dental school, or community;
2. Be an above-average student;
3. Have the qualities of integrity, imagination, initiative, and outstanding communicative skills;
4. Have a "need" for financial support. Grants In 2011 the Foundation made the largest number of grant requests in its history. A total of $137,400 was awarded in grant funding to 29 applicants. A list of the 2011 grants is provided here.
Public Relations Campaign
A public relations campaign plan was developed and currently is serving as a roadmap to market the Foundation. In 2011 we designed a Foundation logo and brochure and are in the final stages of developing a new Web site. Our goals are to increase visibility of the Foundation, increase donations, and develop a corporate giving program.
Looking Ahead to 2012
Our vision is achieved thanks to YOU and your generous donations. We are proud of the work we have facilitated during the past 17 years and are proud of the difference the Foundation has made in advancing oral health care globally to those in need. However, this is just the beginning, and with your support, our goal is to make 2012 the best year ever.
