Grant Received for Georgia Section's Mission of Mercy
The seeds for Georgia's Mission of Mercy project were sown back at our 2009 Leadership Conference. It was wonderful to see that fully one third of our Section (85 Fellows) were very involved in the success of the Georgia Dental Association's inaugural Mission of Mercy Project (GMOM). Twenty-seven PFA Fellows (plus three spouses of Fellows) held leadership positions on the GMOM Committee. Our Section also got things off the ground financially for GMOM by applying for one of the first grants that was received for the project, a $9000 PFA Foundation Grant.
The event provided free dentistry to adults and children at First Baptist Church Woodstock on August 12 and 13, 2011. More than 2100 patients were treated during this 2-day event, and more than $1.7 million in free care was provided. This event was an excellent opportunity to serve our communities and the Georgia Dental Association and enjoy fellowship. We challenge all of our Fellows to be involved in the next GMOM event, which is targeted to take place in June 2013.
