A new year has started, bringing a change in the Michigan section; essentially, this means that we are waiving Michigan Section initiation fee for the new candidates. Also we are working on having one of the meetings during lunch time, so for the fellows who cannot attend the breakfast and like to be part of the activities, they can attend the lunch meeting.
When you read this message, we will be very close to our spring meeting during the MDA annual meeting. Our breakfast will be at the Sheraton Detroit Novi Hotel for Saturday, April 20. The room is the St. Clair Room, the breakfast meeting starts at 7:00am, I look forward to see you soon. On Saturday we are honoring our fellow, friend and past chair for many years. Dr. Virginia Merchant will be honored with a special award for her longtime commitment to the organization; please join us to honor her. She will be the recipient of the PFA Distinguished Service Awards.
Dr. Ed Hirsch started couple of years ago the life member initiative and few of our members received a very nice lapel pin. Now we are going to continue honoring our life members. A special invitation will be mailed to them shortly.
Our activities for the past 6 months. During the Detroit Dental Review, November 9, 2012, PFA breakfast, about 35 fellows joined the section meeting. Drs. Denise Coleman and George Goodis received PFA Distinguished Service Awards; the awards were presented by Dr. Cheri Newman and myself on the behalf of Dr. Joseph C. Harris. Also two new fellows were inducted during the breakfast Drs. William Moilanen and Stephanie Munz. Five students attended to our breakfast from the university of Detroit Mercy and University of Michigan. I thank you all for your students breakfast support. Traditionally our section sponsors a speaker during the Detroit Dental Review, this year we sponsored Dr. Paul Homoly. We received a thank you letter for the Detroit Dental Society dated December 13, 2012. We received thank you letter from the Michigan Dental Association, Mission of Mercy for $1000 donation for the 2013 Mission of Mercy event. The Michigan Dental Association and the Michigan Dental Association Foundation are now working to organize the 2013 Michigan Mission of Mercy event, a special statewide dental access program to be held June 7-8, 2013 at the Ryder Center on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University. I invite you all to be part of the event; please join us, the provided care will improve the oral health of the recipients and provide relief to their dental pain and bring the smiles back to them. You may contact the Mission of Mercy to register smilemichigan.com. For the two days of the event approximately 1,000 volunteers are needed — 300 dentists and assistants; 75 hygienists, and 625 lay volunteers and students.
We will continue working to increase the fellowship of our organization. We will work to have more dental students and improve the mentoring program. Always keep an eye out for individuals that, like you deserve recognition for their accomplishments. Have them be part of our fine organization. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments, you can reach me at my cell phone 2485219827 or email email@example.com. Hoping to see you in April 20, 2013
