Dr. Michael Buonocore Inducted into PFA Hall of Fame
Posted July 18, 2013
On June 6, 2013, in coordination with the dental alumni association weekend, an induction ceremony was held at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry to admit Dr. Michael Buonocore into the PFA Hall of Fame. Dr. Buonocore was a chemist who went on to become a dentist and then went into dental research. His goal was to create an effective way to prevent dental pit and fissure decay. In the 1960's, at the Eastman Dental Center, he invented dental bonding, which is now the basis for many preventive and restorative materials and techniques thus ushering in the modern era of restorative dentistry.
Also honored at this event was Dr. Ronald Brotman who was chairman of the Maryland section for many years. Dr. Brotman was responsible for recognizing many of Maryland's finest dentists by inducting them into the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He was also a very active member of the University of Maryland Dental Alumni Association.
