September 11, 2015
DR. JEFFREY ROSA
The Northern California Section Annual Fellows Induction and Awards Ceremony luncheon was held on August 22, 2015 during the CDA Presents Meeting in San Francisco. We were honored to have the meeting at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, where we were given the opportunity to take a tour of their new state of the art facility.
Fellows inducted are: Craig Alpha, Anson Kwong, Viren Patel, Javid Salehieh, Bina Surti, Jonathan Szymanowksi, Thadeus Szymanowksi, Ryan Yamanaka.
New Fellows (L-R): Drs. Javid Salehieh, Anson Kwong, Ryan Yamanaka, Craig Alpha, Greg Heise, Viren Patel, and Bina Surti, PFA Immediate Past President, Dr. Dan Castagna, and NOCAL Section Chair, Dr. Jeff Rosa.
We were proud to have the presence of UCSF Dental School Associate Dean Sheila Brear and UOP Arthur A. Dugoni Dental School Associate Dean Nader Nadershahi at our luncheon.
Our Faculty Recognition Award for Excellence in Dental Education recipients were Michal Staninec of UCSF Dental School and Bill Lundergan of UOP Arthur A. Dugoni Dental School.
Faculty Development Grants were awarded to Sophia Saeed of UCSF Dental School and Andrew Young of UOP Arthur A Dugoni Dental School.
Student Scholarship Award recipients were Bevan Shoghi Fareid of UCSF Dental School and Peter March of UOP Arthur A. Dugoni Dental School.
UCSF Winners: Bevan Shghi Fareid, Dr. Sophia Saeed, Dr. Michal Staninec, Section Chair, Dr. Jeff Rosa, Immediate Past President, Dr. Dan Castagna.
We had the special honor of having Dr. Walt Weber, the current CDA President speak to us at our luncheon. He gave us an update on organized dentistry and what CDA was working on for their members.
Other special guests that attended were Dr. Dan Castagna, Immediate Past President of Pierre Fauchard, who gave us a history of the organization and what it does. We had our Trustee Dr. Denise Habjan give us an update on Pierre Fauchard. Also, we were excited to have Dr. Steve Chan, who is the incoming President of The American College of Dentists, and who has done much for our section (started the Faculty Recognition Award and Section Grants) give us his story of what it meant to him to be part of the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Other activities that our fellows were part of once again for this year was the CDA Cares, taking place in Sacramento. We had a strong presence of our fellows at the event for all three days, at all levels of volunteering, to make the event a success. The event did over $2 million in dental services, over 2,080 patients were seen, with 13,651 procedures performed. There were roughly 1,774 total volunteers, walking around the event and working it myself, I feel that it was truly a great experience to be part of.
