DR. STEVEN B WHITAKER
Dr. Whitaker grown up in Fort Smith, Arkansas and the Natural State will always maintain favored status! After a number of years as a student and later as a faculty member he was given the opportunity to return home and with family in tow, settled in northwest Arkansas. He served as director of Northwest Stomatology, Ltd., a practice limited to the specialties of oral and maxillofacial pathology and endodontics. After some 20 years, Dr. Whitaker was elated to have the opportunity to return to West Virginia and currently serves in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences as Assistant Professor and Interim Chair. The similarities between West Virginia and Arkansas are numerous and the Whitakers feel right at home! Bryan has served on the faculties of both West Virginia University, the Medical College of Georgia and three schools in the University of Arkansas system. He is also the previous director of the Arkansas Department of Health’s Office of Oral Health. As a clinician, educator and public servant, he carries some unique perspectives on the healthcare professions and how oral health is addressed. After attending Southside High School, Dr. Whitaker received a bachelor’s degree in zoology from the University of Arkansas and a dental degree from the University of Missouri (KC). He then completed residency programs in oral and maxillofacial pathology at the Emory University School of Medicine and endodontics at the Medical College of Georgia. Bryan is a member of multiple organizations including the American Dental Association, American Association of Endodontists and American Association of Public Health Dentistry. In addition, he is a fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Dr. Whitaker has had the opportunity to be involved with organized dentistry in such positions as president of the Northwest District Dental Society, the Arkansas Association of Endodontists and the American Academy of Interdisciplinary Dentofacial Therapy. Bryan has served on the Executive Council of the Arkansas State Dental Association and the American Dental Association’s Council on Scientific Affairs. Over the past few years, he was fortunate enough to have been elected to the Pierre-Fauchard Academy, the Academy of Dentistry International and both the American and International College of Dentists. In addition to the occasional presentation, Dr. Whitaker has contributed to the scientific literature in various publications such as Oral Surgery Oral Medicine Oral Pathology & Oral Radiology and the American Journal of Dermatopathology. Dr. Whitaker enjoys working with the underserved having attended mission trips to Venezuela, Peru and Mexico. He also enjoys participating in the ASDA’s annual Arkansas Mission of Mercy free clinics. He lives in Morgantown with Carol, his wife of 28 years. Their oldest daughter, Emily practices Obstetrics and Gynecology and will begin a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at Saint Louis University in 2020. Their middle daughter, Madeline is the director of Their youngest daughter, Amelia recently returned from serving and teaching in Brazil and is hoping to begin a Master's Program in Linguistics at West Virginia University in the Fall of 2020.
